Towards the industrial scale-up of PV windows

SOLARWIN KoM solar windows
  • Energy and environment

The kick-off meeting of the Solar-Win project was held at IREC headquarters from the 16 to the 17th of October 2019. The main goal of Solar-Win is the industrial scale-up, validation under real-world operation conditions (TRL8) and commercialisation of next generation transparent and non-intrusive photovoltaic (PV) windows.

The project will result in a unique transparent and electricity-generating window that merges the functionality of a PV module and a window in one, allowing a strong increase in the surface available in the building for generation of PV electricity. The project is led by Victor Izquierdo, from the Solar Energy Materials and Systems group at IREC, and the partners include Physee Technologies, Sunplugged and ACCIONA.

The project will last 24 months, and will allow achieving a disruptive advance extending drastically the possibilities for integration of PV solutions to virtually any kind of building, just by installing and/or replacing building windows.

This project has received funding from the EU’s H2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement number 870004.
